..formed in 2017 by pianist/composer james johnston, inalgebra takes it's name from a lyric in thom yorke's 'analyze' and draws heavily on number patterns in developing the materials in it's music. a native of pittsburgh, mr. johnston considers his music to be part of the lineage of math rock that originated there. the short tracks are based on process modules/motivs and their layering, and reflect a wide array of electronically generated sounds (thanks ableton!) influences include the process forms of tom johnson, the minimalism of phillip glass and steve reich, and the music of marc mellits, nick didkovsky, NIN, boards of canada, and radiohead..
